DGA Raised $19M in Q4, $73M total in 2021

With a surge of grassroots donations and first-time donors, the DGA announced a record-breaking fundraising haul for Q4. DGA raised over $19 million in Q4, a 44% increase from Q4 of 2017  — the last off-year following a presidential election.

The DGA raised over $73 million across all entities in 2021 — a 78% increase from 2017.

The record-breaking fundraising growth was fueled by both DGA’s grassroots fundraising as well as from major donors. The DGA has built a robust grassroots fundraising program, raising 247% more in 2021 than in 2017. Of 355,745 grassroots donors in 2021, 60% were first-time donors to the DGA.

Major donors contributed close to $16 million in 2021, doubling the total amount raised from major donors in 2017. 72% of major donor gifts were first-time donors to the DGA.

“The DGA always knew 2022 was going to require an unprecedented level of engagement and support for our Democratic governors and candidates,” said DGA Executive Director Noam Lee. “That’s why we began the process of building capacity to meet that challenge right after Election Day in 2018. Our governors have met the moment by implementing policies to make progress for American families, protect voting rights, and rebuild their states for the next century. Republican candidates, and eleven out of fifteen sitting governors, are engaged in heated primaries focusing on divisive policies. This gives us plenty of opportunities to defend and flip governorships across the country. With these resources, we know we can compete and win anywhere.”
