DGA Announces Raising Record-Shattering $61 Million, Building Even More Momentum Into 2024

The Democratic Governors Association has raised over $61 million across all entities since the start of the year, more than twice as much as the DGA raised by this time in 2020, the last comparable year. This builds upon our red-hot fundraising in 2023, where the DGA shattered expectations and broke spending records to help boost Gov. Beshear’s re-election in deep red Kentucky.

Much of this momentum is driven by continued trust in the DGA to win tough races, a growth in new donors, and grassroots energy to elect Democratic governors who are protecting fundamental freedoms and delivering for working families.

In fact, contributions came from nearly 148,000 individual supporters online, with more than a quarter being first-time donors to the DGA. This is already 22,000 more individual donors than the entirety of 2023, with the average gift being $17. The DGA has also already seen a 125% increase in contributions from major donors compared to 2020, more than doubling the total contributions from that year.

Earlier this year, the DGA also launched “Power to Appoint,” a new dedicated, no-overhead fund with the mission of uplifting the important power nearly half of America’s governors have: appointing judges who will follow the constitution and the rule of law. As more Americans become aware of the impact the courts have on their lives regarding freedom, democracy, and the biggest issues we care about, the DGA created Power to Appoint to raise awareness about the extraordinary power governors also have to appoint judges at the state level and to elect more Democratic governors.

DGA Executive Director Meghan Meehan-Draper said: “This record-breaking fundraising is driven by growing grassroots enthusiasm and major donors who continue to recognize the DGA’s incredible record of winning tough races. As Democratic governors and our candidates are protecting our fundamental freedoms, standing up to extremist Republicans, banning hunger not books and delivering for the middle class, the DGA’s mission has never been more important. We look forward to building on this momentum as we’re laser focused on winning major races for governor in North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Washington, among others, where the future of abortion rights, judicial appointments, public education and our democracy are all on the ballot.”
