DGA Announces New Independent Expenditure Director
Today, the Democratic Governors Association announced Joe Shafer as the organization’s new Director of Independent Expenditures.
Shafer comes most recently from Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration in Pennsylvania, where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff. Prior the Wolf administration, Shafer managed Wolf’s historic primary and general election victories in 2014.
“The DGA is excited to welcome Joe Shafer to direct our Independent Expenditure program,” said DGA Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson. “Joe is an experienced campaign strategist with a proven track record of guiding Democrats to victory in tough races. Joe will play a critical role in the DGA’s efforts in 2016.”
Shafer also ran the successful 2011 special and 2012 re-election campaigns for West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. During the 2010 election cycle, Shafer worked as the Northeast Political Director for the DCCC.
