DGA Announces A Record $10.8M Raised in 1st Quarter
Q1 Fundraising Marks $3M Increase from 2012
Report Continues DGA’s Strong Fundraising Trend
The Democratic Governors Association announced today that the organization raised $10.8 million across all entities during the first quarter of 2016. The fundraising period covers January 1 through March 31.
The numbers mark a DGA record for first quarter fundraising in a presidential year, an increase of more than $3M over Q1 of 2012. During the 2012 cycle, the DGA won three of four tossup races. The 2016 first quarter fundraising figure nearly doubled the $5.6 million the DGA amount raised in the same period of 2008.
The Q1 report continues the DGA’s record breaking fundraising trend. In 2015 the DGA reported $30.2 million across all entities, setting a new DGA record for the first year of a four-year gubernatorial cycle. 2015’s fundraising numbers marked a 50% increase over the $20 million that the DGA raised in 2011, and closed the gap with the RGA by $9 million – going from a 2.5:1 gap to a 1.5:1 gap in four years.
“This record-breaking first quarter fundraising report puts the DGA in strong position for 2016 and beyond,” said DGA Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson. “Democratic governors are leading the way on policies that expand opportunity for more Americans, while Republicans like Pat McCrory and Mike Pence have been fixated on pushing out-of-touch social agendas. These Q1 numbers reflect growing momentum for Democratic governors and gubernatorial candidates in 2016.”
Historical DGA Q1 fundraising figures are below:
-2016 Q1: $10.8M
-2012 Q1: $7.6M
-2008 Q1: $5.6M
