Decision Watch 2024: As Sununu Prepares to Announce Future Plans, Granite Staters Won’t Forget He Signed First Modern Abortion Ban in NH History
After Gov. Chris Sununu closed out his out-of-state press tour earlier this month by promising to make a decision around July 4th about whether he will seek a fifth term, the Democratic Governors Association is helping make his decision a little easier this week by reminding him of all the ways he has failed Granite Staters and shown them that he doesn’t want the job.
While Chris Sununu prepares to announce whether he will be seeking a fifth term as Governor of New Hampshire, Granite Staters won’t soon forget the many ways he has failed them. Most notably, Sununu broke his promise from 2020 when he claimed he wasn’t “looking to make any changes” to the state’s abortion laws by signing the first modern abortion ban in New Hampshire’s history, with no exceptions for rape and incest, and later bragging about it, claiming he has “done more on the pro-life issue…than anyone.”
“No matter what Gov. Sununu decides, he has already betrayed Granite Staters by breaking his promise, going against their wishes and signing into law the state’s first modern abortion ban without exception for rape or incest,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Izzi Levy. “Granite Staters deserve a governor who will put their constituents ahead of empty promises and partisan politics. We look forward to working to elect a Democratic Governor in New Hampshire who will protect Granite Staters’ freedoms, not strip them away.”
All this week, the DGA is reminding New Hampshire voters of the reasons Sununu is unfit for another term, including abandoning the state for his cross-country press tour.
