Day 20: Ives Campaign Again Accuses Rauner Of Lying, Does Not Want His “Disingenuous Outreach”
On Friday, Governor Bruce Rauner wanted to bring the theme of Republican unity to southern Illinois, but state Representative Jeanne Ives was not interested in playing along.
Rauner claimed his campaign had reached out to Ives after the election, and for the second time this week, Ives’ camp accused the governor of lying. Ives’ spokesperson added they did not want “perfunctory and disingenuous outreach” since Rauner’s allies were making it clear “that they want Ives and other conservatives out of the party.” Another banner day for Republican unity.
“It’s been nearly three weeks since the primary and Bruce Rauner is not even an inch closer to restoring trust with Jeanne Ives or the 48% of Republicans who voted for her,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “After failing to lead the state, Bruce Rauner has no credibility left with the Republicans, Democrats or Independents he needs to win this fall.”
