Dave Reichert Promises to “Unravel” Abortion Rights at Campaign Event with Anti-Abortion Group

A new report from KUOW reveals that former U.S. Congressman and Republican candidate for governor Dave Reichert recently spoke at a town hall event hosted by Firmly Planted Action, an extreme anti-abortion group that has advocated for “end[ing] abortion once and for all” and celebrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Its founder also promised to roll back Washingtonians’ abortion rights.

At the event, Reichert was asked about eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood, to which he “responded by talking about ‘unraveling’ certain state laws, and getting more people elected to make changes through the Legislature over time…” This isn’t shocking for Reichert, who, as KUOW notes, “voted against abortion multiple times, supporting legislation to eliminate federal funding for abortion services, and legislation that would have created a national abortion ban…”

This also isn’t the first time Reichert has outlined his extreme plans to his supporters behind closed doors while saying the opposite to Washington voters publicly.

Just last week, a new report revealed that Reichert “was caught on mic joking about threatening to shoot journalists.” Earlier this year, Reichert was caught telling a group of his supporters that marriage is “between a man and a woman,” and at another event, denying human causes of climate change, claiming that “‘the guy upstairs’ is responsible for controlling the weather.” Reichert has also secretly promised supporters that he would pretend to be a moderate to win the election, but that once he’s in office, he would “start showing our conservative ideas.”

“Dave Reichert appearing alongside an anti-abortion organization that has called to ‘end abortion in America’ is the latest reminder that Washingtonians’ reproductive rights are on the ballot this year, and that Washington voters can’t trust him,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Reichert thinks he can trick voters into supporting him by hiding his real record in public while detailing his extreme agenda to his supporters behind closed doors. But Washingtonians know the truth and can see through his scheme. They won’t let Reichert take the state backwards.”
