Dave Reichert Lies About Support for Trump on Washington Debate Stage
In the first debate of the Washington governor’s race last night, former Congressman Dave Reichert lied directly to Washington voters about his well-documented support for Donald Trump, claiming “I am not supporting Mr. Trump. I’m making that announcement tonight.”
WATCH HERE:
Reichert’s claim last night goes against what he’s told his supporters behind closed doors on Trump as recently as this year, including:
-
That he “love[s] Donald Trump’s policies.”
-
That he has “a MAGA hat at home with [Trump’s] signature,” and that the two of them “have worked together.”
-
And that he will be voting for Trump in November.
This is just the latest example of Reichert saying something extreme and unpopular to his supporters behind closed doors and saying the complete opposite in public, including:
-
Cutting a TV ad claiming he won’t further restrict abortion rights despite his lengthy and well-documented record of doing exactly that.
-
Telling a group of his supporters that marriage is “between a man and a woman.”
-
Denying the human causes of climate change, claiming that “‘the guy upstairs’ is responsible for controlling the weather.”
-
Secretly promising supporters in a closed-door meeting that he would pretend to be a moderate to win the election, but that once he’s in office, he would “start showing our conservative ideas.”
“No matter how many times he tries, Dave Reichert won’t get away with trying to cover up his well-documented support for Donald Trump,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Voters won’t fall for this desperate election season scheme from Reichert – all they have to do is look at what he says behind closed doors and how he votes to see the truth.”
