Dangerous Doug Mastriano Celebrates Roe Is Now In “The Ash Heap of History”

Latest News

Following today’s unprecedented news, Doug Mastriano declared that Roe is “rightly relegated to the ash heap of history,” making it more clear than ever that he is determined to sign a dangerous abortion ban from Pennsylvania’s GOP state legislature if he’s elected governor.

Mastriano has spent the day celebrating this decision, which gives states power to accomplish his “number one” priority — banning abortion without exceptions and jailing doctors who perform them.

Here’s a recap of his extreme anti-choice agenda that just became much more dangerous in an America without Roe v. Wade:

  • Mastriano has claimed that Roe v. Wade is “so much” worse than the Holocaust and said, “my body, my choice is ridiculous nonsense.”
  • In Harrisburg, Mastriano’s led the effort to restrict access to reproductive healthcare, twice sponsoring draconian abortion bans, including one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.
  • Mastriano and fellow Harrisburg Republicans are working on at least 18 bills attacking reproductive rights right now. These GOP efforts include pushing an amendment to the Commonwealth’s Constitution that would deny the right to abortion care with no exceptions, imposing mandatory life sentences for anyone who performs an abortion, and introducing legislation that would fine women and burden them with paperwork after an abortion or a miscarriage.

In contrast, Attorney General Josh Shapiro has pledged to keep abortion legal.

“Doug Mastriano is deadset on ripping away Pennsylvanians’ fundamental freedoms — including outlawing abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother while throwing doctors in jail for performing abortions,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Today’s SCOTUS’ decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is an unprecedented reminder that without Josh Shapiro as Pennsylvania’s next governor, there’s nothing stopping Doug Mastriano from working with Harrisburg Republicans to enact an extreme and unpopular abortion ban. The contrast is that simple.”
