Dan Cox Jumps To Trump’s Defense With Dangerous Pledge to Use National Guard to Advance MAGA Agenda

Latest News

What Would Cox Have Done With the Maryland National Guard on January 6th?

After the FBI executed a search warrant approved by a federal judge at Donald Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago, Dan Cox made a dangerous pledge to weaponize state police and the Maryland National Guard to stand against the federal government as he pushes for a far-right MAGA agenda. The Baltimore Sun reported Cox “did not specifically say what he would have the law enforcement officers do or by what authority — other than vague references.”

This claim is especially dangerous given Cox’s long record of embracing baseless conspiracy theories — most notably, spreading Trump’s Big Lie, arranging buses to the January 6th insurrection, and calling Vice President Mike Pence a “traitor” as violent rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

In contrast, Gov. Hogan actually sent the Maryland National Guard to DC on January 6th to help protect the U.S. Capitol.

In their coverage of Cox’s comments, the Washington Post said the Maryland GOP primary was a “proxy war between Trump’s and Hogan’s divergent views for the Republican Party’s future” — and it’s clear Cox is sticking to the far-right MAGA brand of politics in the general election.

“Rather than focus on how law enforcement can make Maryland communities safer, Dan Cox wants to weaponize the state police and National Guard to carry out his and Trump’s extreme political agendas,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “Cox’s blind loyalty to Trump is too dangerous for Maryland. All of this raises the question: What would Cox have done with the Maryland National Guard on January 6th?”
