Coalition of Prominent Michigan Republicans Endorses Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign announced the launch of Republicans for Whitmer, a group of over 150 Michigan Republicans supporting her re-election and led by a leadership council of prominent business leaders, former lawmakers, and staff of former Republican governors John Engler and Rick Snyder.
“Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has worked across the aisle to sign 900 bipartisan bills, land the largest economic investment from GM ever, put $3 billion back in Michiganders’ pockets, and fund public education at historic levels — all without raising taxes,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “No matter your party, the choice is clear — Gov. Whitmer is the only candidate for governor with a proven record of bringing Republicans and Democrats together to deliver for working families.”
Here’s what people are saying about Michigan Republicans endorsing Gov. Whitmer:
- FOX 2 Detroit: “It will be made up of 150 members including a 35-member leadership council with former key members of the Snyder and Engler administrations.”
- Michigan Advance: “A Republicans for Whitmer group has relaunched. The Democratic governor also had a group in 2018.”
- Detroit Metro Times: “The formation of the group comes as the Michigan Republican Party struggles to unify ahead of the November election. With far-right candidates for governor, secretary of state, and attorney general, the party has alienated moderate Republicans”
- Crain’s Detroit Business: “Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign on Monday announced some prominent Republicans supporting her re-election instead of challenger Tudor Dixon, releasing a list of GOP backers that is longer than when she first ran four years ago.”
- MIRS News’ Lisa Roose-Church: “The Republicans for Whitmer committee of 150 Republican members is being created, including a 35-member leadership council with former members of the Snyder and Engler administrations and others.”
- Bridge Michigan’s Jonathan Oosting: “Several of these folks also backed her in 2018, but some new names too.”
- MSNBC: “A group of Michigan Republicans this morning threw its support behind Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s re-election campaign.”
