CNN Investigation Details Mark Robinson’s Desperate Attempt to Run from His Long Record of Anti-Choice Extremism

The Charlotte Observer Editorial Board: “Robinson can run from his extremist past, but he can’t hide from it.”

A new CNN investigation details how North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is now desperately trying to run from his long and well-documented record of pushing for completely banning abortion in “any circumstances.”

CNN found that since at least 2018, Robinson “regularly labeled abortion as ‘murder’ and ‘genocide,’” and “baselessly speculated that the founders of Planned Parenthood were satanists who practiced witchcraft.”

The report also noted some of Robinson’s comments stating his clear plan to push an extreme abortion ban, including when he said, “If I had all the power right now, let’s say I was the governor and had a willing legislature, we could pass a bill saying you can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason.”

The Charlotte Observer followed up with a brutal editorial calling out Robinson, writing: “Robinson has said he’d like abortion to be banned in all circumstances, including rape and incest. He has frequently likened abortion to murder and said that once a woman is pregnant, her body is no longer her own. Now, as a candidate for governor, Robinson wants you to forget he ever said that. And he doesn’t seem to have much memory of it himself.”

The editorial added, “Robinson can run from his extremist past, but he can’t hide from it.”

“No matter what Mark Robinson says or does, he has already proven that he is firmly committed to pushing a dangerous and extreme abortion ban with no exceptions in even the most dire circumstances,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “Robinson’s anti-choice extremism is wrong for North Carolina, dangerous for women and girls, and has no place in the governor’s mansion.”
