Chris Sununu Allows Trump Rally to Proceed With No Public Health Restrictions, Putting Granite Staters’ Lives At Risk
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu is bending over backwards to please Donald Trump at the expense of Granite Staters. While it’s not clear whether or not Sununu will be attending Trump’s rally on Saturday, since he’s tried to have it both ways in front of different audiences, one thing is clear – he’s putting Granite Staters’ health at risk.
Allowing the event to happen without any public health measures in place risks further spread of COVID-19. After Trump’s rally in Tulsa, the county experienced an uptick in cases. Not only is Sununu allowing Trump to host a large event without a mask requirement, he’s also letting the president and his out-of-state supporters flout New Hampshire’s travel quarantine rules.
This isn’t the first time Sununu has allowed partisan politics to influence his decision-making during the COVID-19 pandemic. Just last week, a senior staffer in his office admitted that New Hampshire had opened faster than the rest of the region, citing the backlash from the right in response to the stay-at-home orders.
“Trump’s rally will put New Hampshire at greater risk for COVID-19 spread, but Sununu’s biggest concern is the political risk of upsetting Trump and his base,” said DGA National Press Secretary Jerusalem Demsas. “Putting politics ahead of people’s lives during a pandemic is unacceptable and promoting Trump’s rally and welcoming him into the state is irresponsible and dangerous.”
