Carr Goes After Jones for Abusing His Office to Enrich Himself

Chris Carr is once again attacking Burt Jones for abusing his office to enrich himself — this time pointing to a bombshell new report.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution revealed yesterday that Jones’ father is planning to build 13 “mammoth” data centers as part of the construction of a hospital site that was made possible by a law Jones himself pushed in the State Senate. Jones has received years of sharp criticism for backing multiple proposals to roll back rules on where hospitals can be built in a way that would enrich his family. That rule change meant a big pay day for the Jones family by allowing a private hospital to be built on land owned by Jones’ father.

After the report came out, Carr quickly took to social media to attack Jones once again for abusing his public office for private gain:

This is the latest personal and vicious clash in Carr and Jones’ messy months-long dispute. Last week, Carr accused Jones of using his office to benefit himself at a gathering of the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals. Carr later released a video echoing that attack and bragged that it earned him “amens” and “applause.”

Georgia Republicans are stuck in a “vicious” gubernatorial primary that they have tried — and failed — to defuse. This week, the party refused to vote on a “comity” resolution intended to serve as a “truce” to address tensions in the primary.
