Cameron’s Latest Stop on The Empty Education Apology Tour

As Daniel Cameron continues to offer empty apologies for the damage he and the Kentucky GOP have caused to the state’s education system and educators, the reality is he still backs a harmful agenda that would hurt public schools, parents and students.

Cameron most recently offered an empty apology yesterday if Kentucky teachers have “any misgivings about a Republican nominee for governor because of the past.”

But what Cameron leaves out is that he has done nothing to back away from his record of supporting an unconstitutional voucher scheme that would strip funding from public schools. He also said he would have defended Matt Bevin’s “Sewer Bill” that would have dismantled pensions earned after years of hard work from Kentucky educators.

Additionally, the first big decision he made as the GOP nominee for governor was to select state Senator Robby Mills as his running mate, who was one of the architects behind the attack on teacher pensions in the state legislature, going as far as calling for a special session on the matter.

“No matter what he’d like Kentuckians to believe, Daniel Cameron’s attacks on public education and teachers are not a thing of the past,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Cameron would have stood behind Matt Bevin’s attempts to rip hard-earned pensions away from teachers, supports ripping funds from struggling rural schools, and picked an enemy to public education as his running mate. Cameron isn’t fooling anyone – especially Kentucky educators who can see right through his empty words.”
