BREAKING: Sam Brownback Backs Ty Masterson for Kansas Governor

In a new interview with The Topeka Capital Journal, Sam Brownback – the disgraced former Kansas Governor best known for his disastrous tax experiment – praised Ty Masterson in the race for Kansas governor. Brownback has a stunning 64 percent unfavorability rating — making him one of the most toxic politicians in the entire state.

Brownback called Masterson “a great guy” and said he is “very knowledgeable on how to form policy in Kansas — and good policy for Kansas.” Brownback also lauded Masterson for being a “talented legislator” and said “he’d do a great job as governor” – not exactly the kind of praise you want to hear from a man best known for tanking the Kansas economy.

Masterson was one of Brownback’s closest allies in the legislature and even bragged on tape about writing the failed experiment that devastated Kansas schools and destroyed the state’s economy. Masterson not only voted to pass the Brownback experiment, he tried to block a group of bipartisan legislators from overturning it, calling the bill a “piece of garbage.”

“If Sam Brownback’s idea of a great governor with good policy ideas is Ty Masterson, it’s clear that Masterson belongs nowhere near the Kansas governor’s mansion,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Johanna Warshaw. “A Masterson administration would be a repeat of the Brownback administration: less funding for Kansas schools and less money in Kansans’ pockets.”
