Breaking NYT Report Exposes Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen’s Latest Hypocrisy Scandal

New York Times: As He Backs ICE Crackdown, Nebraska Governor Employs Undocumented Workers

New reporting from The New York Times revealed that while Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen tries to talk tough on immigration, he “built a multimillion-dollar hog enterprise” that relied on undocumented workers for over a decade.

It’s yet another hypocritical move from the deeply unpopular governor who continues to believe that the rules don’t apply to him. Pillen’s toxic record includes inheriting a $1.2 billion surplus and driving the state into a $646 million deficit while forcing massive cuts to essential Nebraska services, awarding a $2.5 million no-bid contract to a lobbyist he has close ties to, and pushing a sales tax hike even a Republican state senator called “corrupt” that would have cut his own property taxes by $1 million while raising costs on working families.

Pillen has spent his time in office enriching himself and his allies – all while Nebraska families and workers pay the price.

“Jim Pillen expects everyone else to play by the rules, but when it comes to his own bottom line, he suddenly thinks they don’t apply,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Johanna Warshaw. “This is the latest in a string of scandals that make Pillen one of the most unpopular governors in the country who puts himself and his allies first and Nebraskans last.”
