Boston Globe: “Virginia will bear the brunt of DOGE cuts” While GOP Candidates for Governor Embrace Them
Winsome Earle-Sears “validating Trump and Musk’s mission”
New reporting from the Boston Globe highlights how Donald Trump and Elon Musk are attacking Virginia’s jobs and economy, writing: “few states stand to be more affected than Virginia, home to over 340,000 federal workers, from the suburbs just across the Potomac River from Washington to the military communities of Hampton Roads… And no state might illustrate the potential political backlash to the Department of Government Efficiency project quicker than Virginia.”
Instead of standing up for Virginia, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears has been “validating Trump and Musk’s mission,” while refusing to offer meaningful solutions for workers who are losing their jobs. The Boston Globe even noted that she shared multiple links online that “directed to pages that showed error messages as of Wednesday. Her campaign did not respond to requests for comment or an interview.” Former Sears transition director Chris Saxman said “We’re going to see some significant impacts to Virginia.”
At the same time, Sears has faced increasing backlash from her own party – including other GOP candidates Dave LaRock and Amanda Chase – as the Republican primary continues to be a negative race to the far-right.
LaRock has become a problem for Sears, as she is “viewed with suspicion in some pro-Trump circles” and as LaRock has fully leaned into DOGE cuts, listing his number one priority as creating a “Virginia version of DOGE” on his campaign website.
“Virginians are hurting as a result of Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s attacks on their jobs, yet Winsome Earle-Sears and Dave LaRock are rushing to prove who loves the damage more,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “As Sears and LaRock continue to fight with each other and run to the far right, it’s clear the GOP will be left with a nominee who is out-of-touch and wrong for Virginia.”
