Big Lie Backfires As Joe Lombardo Still Hasn’t Solidified the GOP Base and Joey Gilbert Requests Recount
Thought the drama in the Nevada Republican primary was over? Think again. Alleging widespread voter fraud, Joey Gilbert is requesting a statewide recount of Nevada’s GOP primary for governor — and has even dropped off a check to pay for it. Gilbert is looking to contest the results that had Joe Lombardo limping across the finish line with less than 40% of the vote.
Gilbert’s insistence on rehashing the race shows Lombardo continues to fail to consolidate support from a deeply divided Republican base.
As Gilbert refuses to concede and his supporters fought against certifying the election results last week, Lombardo is forced to face the consequences of boosting the Big Lie throughout his campaign.
Lombardo will now have to continue to spread his limited dollars and legal resources thin. Instead of talking to Nevada voters, he’s having to defend his election results and hiding his alleged use of County resources for political gain.
It doesn’t help that Lombardo’s “longtime friend” Michael McDonald had his phone seized by the FBI for his involvement in a fake electors scheme while trying to overturn the 2020 election.
“Joe Lombardo might regret embracing the Big Lie for the past year now that members of his own party are using baseless election conspiracy theories against him,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “The general election is just kicking off, and Lombardo’s already proven he can’t unify the Republican base. We look forward to watching his campaign continue to sink over the next four months.”
