Bevin Longs For The Days When Kentuckians With Pre-Existing Conditions Had More Expensive Health Care That Covered Less

Latest News

Last week, Bevin continued his war on Kentuckians’ health care by longing for the days when Kentuckians with pre-existing conditions had disastrous high-risk pools, which offered skimpier benefits at a much higher cost.
Bevin said, “We used to have that before the ACA existed…I think we should go back to something like that.”
Kentucky had a high-risk insurance pool that “only worked for a fraction of the people who needed it.” Premiums were too expensive which is why although 1.8 million Kentuckians have a pre-existing condition, only 4,837 people were enrolled in the pool during the peak year of the program’s 13-year span.
Bevin has a well-documented history of trying to gut protections for pre-existing conditions. He supported a lawsuit that would allow insurance companies to deny coverage to 1.8 million Kentuckians.
“Matt Bevin supports higher costs and coverage restrictions for Kentuckians with a pre-existing condition,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Bevin’s support of high-risk pools shows he is out-of-touch with millions of Kentuckians who don’t want to go back to the days where health coverage was far too expensive and covered too little. As long as Matt Bevin is governor, health care is threatened for Kentuckians with a pre-existing condition.”
