Bailey Falls in Line With Extremist Anti-Choice Stance at GOP Gubernatorial Debate
While Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance, far-right GOP gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey proudly touted his extremist anti-choice views at tonight’s debate, saying: “I am proudly pro-life and I stand here amongst you as the only candidate that has been endorsed by every pro-life and pro-family organization in the state of Illinois.”
Bailey has a long record of attacking reproductive rights. As a state legislator, he was a loud anti-choice voice and voted against defending Roe v. Wade.
In his campaign for governor, Bailey’s touted endorsements from three leading anti-abortion groups — further solidifying his position as the uber-conservative, far-right candidate in the race.
“Darren Bailey and his fellow Republican gubernatorial candidates will stop at nothing to take away Illinoisans’ reproductive freedoms,” said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “These Republicans are far too extreme for a state where the vast majority of residents are staunchly pro-choice — and Illinois voters know it.”
