As Rhode Island Primary Approaches, Fung Goes Full Trump
In advance of Wednesday’s Rhode Island primary, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung is going full-Trump, a strategy that will certainly cause him problems should he advance to the general election.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Fung sent out a fear-mongering mailer on “violent illegal immigrants.” On top of that, he’s been touting the endorsement of former Trump press secretary and noted liar Sean Spicer.
Unfortunately for Fung, Rhode Islanders don’t much care for President Trump. He lost the state 16 points, and his net approval rating stands at -18.
“Rhode Islanders need a governor who will stand up against the Trump Administration’s agenda, not one who is trying to bring that agenda to the Ocean State,” said Democratic Governors Association Press Secretary Melissa Miller. “By embracing Trump in the primary like this, Fung has shot himself in the foot for the general election. Voters won’t forget whose side he’s really on.”
