As Mike Cooney Launches “Women for Cooney,” Greg Gianforte’s Anti-Women Record Comes Under Fire

Gianforte Has Missed Key Votes For Women And Families In Congress

While Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney reaffirms his commitment to women’s rights and launches “Women for Cooney”, GOP gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte’s anti-women record is coming under attack. Over the past few weeks, Montanans have admonished Gianforte for missing more votes in Congress than 93% of his peers, including votes protecting health care and even providing necessary funding for the Centers for Disease Control. Now, as Cooney highlights his own record of protecting women and families, it’s clear Montana’s sole Congressman has failed to show up.
In just the last two years, Gianforte has missed critical votes on:

  • A bill that would have provided $1 million to promote intimate partner violence response at the state level;
  • An amendment that would increase funding for maternal and child health programs by $7 million;
  • And an amendment to increase funding to programs aimed at assisting children and families by $2 million.

“‘No Show’ Greg Gianforte failed to show up for Montana women,” said DGA National Press Secretary Jerusalem Demsas. “As governor, Gianforte would strip away women’s right to privacy, access to healthcare, and funding for important programs assisting Montanans affected by domestic violence. Montanans cannot risk voting for a candidate who wants to reverse progress. Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney fully supports equality and has a proven record of advocating for Montana’s women and children.”
