As Congressional Republicans Move to Reverse Election Results, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Silence Speaks Volumes

Do Republicans In Florida Support Efforts to Undermine the Results of Our Free and Fair Election?

Nearly a quarter of Senate Republicans and close to 140 House Republicans have announced they plan to object to the certification of electors in Congress today in an extraordinary attempt to undermine American democracy.

The move comes at the behest of President Trump and his allies, who have failed to provide any evidence of wrongdoing and lost almost every court battle they’ve entered, but still are pushing for an unprecedented attempt to overturn the will of the American people.

The impacts of Trump’s attacks on our democracy are already trickling down to the state level. In Pennsylvania yesterday, state Senate Republicans refused to accept the results of a closely contested election and blocked Democratic Senator Jim Brewster from being sworn in.

These repeated attempts to undermine the results of the 2020 election, which has  been certified by all 50 states and deemed uncompromised by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, could do lasting damage to our democracy and will only further divide Americans.

“The dangerous consequences of this wholly unconstitutional attempt to overturn election results are unquestionable. The extent of the damage to our institutions is up to Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Will they do the right thing, and call out these undemocratic attacks for what they are? Or will they stand idly by as their fellow Republicans make a mockery of the Constitution?”
