As Cases and Hospitalizations in Florida Reach Record Highs, Ron DeSantis Brags: “Our Hospitals Are Open for Business”

As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations rise in Florida and a growing number of Florida hospitals report “having to put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways, Ron DeSantis is demonstrating a stunning lack of leadership.

In response to questions about COVID-19 and how hospital beds are filling up with COVID patients, Ron DeSantis continued to downplay the number of Floridians who are hospitalized and even bragged “our hospitals are open for business.”

This comes as the Miami Herald recently reported “more Florida children were hospitalized with COVID-19 on Tuesday than in any other state,” while the Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board slammed DeSantis, saying he “lacks courage to confront COVID.”

Additionally, a recent poll shows approval ratings for DeSantis are quickly sinking as he faces significant backlash amid this latest surge of cases, with just “44% of Florida voters saying they approve of the job he is doing, while 49% said they do not approve of his job performance.”

“Instead of looking out for Floridians who are sick or at risk, Ron DeSantis is trying to score political points for himself while ignoring the needs of Florida families, workers and small businesses,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Sam Newton. “In mocking the deadly reality of Floridians in the hospital and opposing any common-sense measures to keep people safe, DeSantis is proving he cares more about his own politics than people who are in the hospital or helping the economy and families go back to normal without the risk of getting sick. Floridians deserve better than his ongoing failures.”
