America Overwhelmingly Approves of Democratic Governors
Navigator Research Poll Shows Americans Approve of the Job Dem Govs Are Doing At Much Higher Rates Than President Trump
Today, Navigator Research released a new poll showing that 69% of voters approve of governors’ handling of the coronavirus pandemic while only 44% approve of President Trump’s actions. Specifically, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has 75% approval, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has 65% approval, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has 70% approval, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has 80% approval, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has 74% approval. This overwhelming support for governors is a reflection of the strength and clarity the governors have shown in their leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
While President Trump’s solution to the coronavirus pandemic is nonsensical advice, Democratic governors are listening to public health experts and making tough, but necessary, decisions to save lives. The governors and their staff are working tirelessly to take care of their constituents. A member of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s team even hunted down PPE at a meeting in a McDonald’s parking lot.
And now that the country again lacks clear guidance from the White House, the governors have formed bipartisan reopening pacts on the east and west coasts, as well as in the midwest.
The exceptions to the governors’ sky-high approval ratings? GOP Govs. Ron DeSantis (called his state “God’s waiting room” and couldn’t figure out how to put on a mask) and Brian Kemp (didn’t know asymptomatic people could spread coronavirus).
“Democratic governors stepped up to fill the leadership void left by the federal government, so it’s no surprise that Americans approve of their response to the pandemic more than the president’s,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “The governors made tough, but necessary decisions, that are now succeeding in saving lives. While the president continues to tweet, search for someone to blame, and probably inject cleaning products into his veins, Democratic governors will continue to actually lead this country through the pandemic.”
