Allan Fung Courts Trump Voters (In State Trump Lost By 16 Points)
Cranston Mayor Allan Fung has recently doubled down on his Trumpy strategy in his gubernatorial bid, touting an internal poll that found him winning among Trump voters. The problem with that plan? He’s running in Rhode Island, a state where the President lost by a whopping 16 points and where his net approval rating stands at -18.
Of course, taking the Trump route is nothing new for Fung. Just last month, he refused to condemn the President’s policy of separating children from their parents at the border. He also wouldn’t speak out against the President’s dangerous health care schemes. Fung even defended the President after he referred to countries in Africa as “shitholes.” And Fung said minorities should “work harder” after Trump defended white supremacists in Charlottesville. And back in 2017, he infamously cheered the President on at his inauguration, wearing a Trump-branded hat.
“Rhode Islanders need a governor who will stand up against Trump’s dangerous policies that threaten Rhode Island’s workers and families,” said DGA Press Secretary Melissa Miller. “By failing to speak out against the Trump Administration, Mayor Fung finds himself on the wrong side of policy and on the wrong side of Rhode Island voters.”
