“Doctored anti-gas stove photo”: Mike Braun Forced To Change Misleading Ad with “Wildly Altered Image”

After facing backlash across Indiana yesterday, Mike Braun was forced to change his false and desperate ad against Jennifer McCormick that initially appeared to violate a new state law because it “contained digitally altered material without publicly disclosing its alteration.”

Notably, the latest version of the ad still relies on the “wildly altered image” to lie to voters about McCormick and distract from real issues like Braun’s extreme record of supporting the state’s dangerous abortion ban.

As noted in the Indiana Capital Chronicle Braun’s smears come as “Inside Elections dropped the race’s rating from ‘Solid Republican’ to ‘Likely Republican’ last week.”

Former State Superintendent Jennifer McCormick responded by saying: “Yes. I’ve seen the ad. No. I don’t care what type of stove you use. I am focusing on real issues like women’s reproductive freedoms, education and good paying jobs. My opponent is apparently focused on stoves. See you on the debate stage. Enough nonsense!”

Read more below on Mike Braun being forced to change his deceptive ad with a manipulated image:

  • Indiana Capital Chronicle: Braun hits McCormick with negative, digitally altered ad in governor’s race “The Braun campaign didn’t comment on the negative strategy, which marks a new stage in the governor’s race following the news that Inside Elections dropped the race’s rating from ‘Solid Republican’ to ‘Likely Republican’ last week.”
  • 21Alive: Braun campaign releases ad with digitally altered images of McCormick “Braun’s campaign released, retracted and replaced the original version of the commercial with one that includes a disclaimer that ‘elements of this media have been digitally altered or artificially generated.’ The original did not include the warning.”
  • IndyStar: Braun campaign releases attack ad with doctored anti-gas stove photo of McCormick “The Republican gubernatorial candidate’s campaign drew criticism Monday for releasing the ad containing the doctored image, along with audio that said McCormick wants to ‘ban gas stoves.’ Braun’s campaign later pulled the ad and replaced it with one containing a disclaimer that the image had been doctored, which is now required under a state law passed earlier this year.”
