Rauner Has Been “Crystal Clear” – He’s Refusing to Protect Families from Gun Violence

Today, Governor Bruce Rauner absurdly claimed he has been “crystal clear” about his stance on guns. In the past few weeks, Rauner’s been asked what he would specifically do to prevent gun violence, and Rauner’s responded by calling for “conversation” and “examination” and said he would be “open to considering changes.” Nothing ambiguous about that.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel handed Governor Rauner a letter today urging him to sign a bill currently sitting on his desk. When asked about the specific bill, Rauner once again dodged (via CBS):

“I have been crystal clear. I support bipartisan reforms to keep our citizens safer, and we need to do this on a comprehensive basis; real reform that will really change the system, keep our students safer in our schools, ban bump stocks, support law enforcement, and do a better job of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. I look forward to working with the mayor and all of our elected officials on a bipartisan basis to get good changes to keep our people safe.”

Clear as fog.

“The only thing Bruce Rauner has been crystal clear about is that he’s refusing to protect families from gun violence,” said DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro. “Instead, Rauner’s doing what he does best – dodging responsibility on politically tough issues. Rauner’s repeated failure to show leadership has clearly lead to his rock-bottom approval ratings and earned him the moniker – ‘most vulnerable incumbent.’”
