Nevada Republican Mark Amodei Rushes to Align Himself with Conspiracy Theorists and Extremists

Latest News

In an interview over the weekend, Nevada Rep. Mark Amodei announced he was still considering running for governor in 2022, and then immediately rushed to defend the behavior of twice-impeached former President Donald Trump and conspiracy theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene, who suggested the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting that killed 58 people was staged.

Amodei is aligning himself with far-right extremists early on – showing exactly what type of campaign he plans to run in 2022. Amodei revealed during the interview that he sided with Marjorie Taylor Greene and voted to rebuke Liz Cheney, who was punished by Republicans for condemning Trump’s violent rhetoric and voting to impeach him. Amodei also added that he believes Trump didn’t incite the riot, despite evidence showing the mob was overwhelmingly made up of Trump supporters, donors, and even some GOP party officials.

Amodei has a history of choosing the far-right wing of his party over democracy. In December, he donated to Assemblywoman Annie Black’s campaign, after she promoted baseless election fraud claims. Black also attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on January 6th that led to the violent attack on Congress.

“By embracing Marjorie Taylor Greene and Annie Black, Mark Amodei is making it clear he plans to make the 2022 GOP primary a race to the right,” said DGA Communications Senior Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Amodei won’t miss any opportunity to cozy up to Trump’s base, and he’ll always put partisanship above protecting our democracy.”
