WV Governor Has Public Meltdown at Gala, College GOP Votes No Confidence

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week” doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to end.
Once again, an important Republican grassroots organization has voted to express no confidence in his leadership. This time it was the West Virginia Federation of College Republicans, who passed the resolution during their annual convention. For those counting at home, this is the third prominent GOP group to pass such a measure.
In addition to dealing with a full-blown mutiny in his party, Justice’s business practices have come renewed public scrutiny after Forbes published a damning article dubbing him the “Deadbeat Billionaire.” Shortly after, he and his children were named in a DOJ subpoena as part of an investigation into financial transactions and communications with the state Department of Commerce.
He’s clearly feeling the heat. Last Friday night, Justice hijacked a gala to air his grievances and defend his business practices. He left immediately after without acknowledging the charity they were supposed to be honoring that night:

Scheduled to speak late in the program, Justice took a microphone in hand, sat on a four-legged stool in front of some 550 people at the gala and, shortly after the affair got underway at 6:30 p.m., defended his business dealings, criticized Sen. Joe Manchin and warmly embraced the politics of President Donald Trump.

Justice left immediately after his speech, without paying tribute to the Carter Family Foundation, which was being recognized for its multiple contributions with the chamber’s Community Service Award.

“Jim Justice’s political and business empires are simultaneously crumbling in public and he’s not handling it well,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner. “Republicans know they have damaged goods on their hands, but Justice is in complete denial. The governor’s reelection bid is looking more like a train wreck with every day that passes.”
