ICYMI: DGA Chair Gov. Phil Murphy Blasts Senate Republicans for Leaving States Behind in COVID-19 Aid Package

“It’s completely irresponsible. I don’t know what country they’re looking at, frankly. This isn’t a blue state issue, it isn’t a legacy state issue, it’s an American issue.”

Today, Senate Republicans announced they’ve reached an agreement on an aid package that seeks to slash benefits for unemployed Americans and doesn’t include substantial aid to states and localities.

During an appearance on CNN, DGA Chair New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy stood up for Americans and called out Republicans for leaving states to deal with the pandemic on their own. Gov. Murphy explained injecting cash into states “is the one smart thing we can do as a country right now.”

Without significant cash assistance for states, states will need to furlough workers and make cuts to unemployment, health care, first responders, education, and other programs that Americans desperately need to get back on their feet. Gov. Murphy touted the House Democrats’ HEROES Act as including a “big slug” for states and urged Congressional Republicans to step up in America’s darkest hour of need.
