Governor Bullock Elected Chair of the DGA

Montana Governor Steve Bullock was elected Chair of the Democratic Governors Association at the organization’s annual meeting today, succeeding Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, who served as Chair for 2013 and 2014. Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy was elected Chair-Elect.

“Democratic governors are leading and delivering real results for Americans. We’re creating jobs so we can grow and strengthen the middle class.  We’re investing in our next generation of workers by creating opportunities in our schools,” Governor Bullock said. “As Chair, it will be my highest priority to recruit candidates committed to those principles and to ensure that we win in red, purple, and blue states from coast to coast.”

As Chair-Elect, Governor Malloy will serve as the organization’s Chair in 2016 following the completion of Governor Bullock’s one-year term. In addition to the Chair positions, New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan was reelected Vice Chair and Washington Governor Jay Inslee was reelected Finance Chair.

“It’s been a tremendous honor to serve as Chair of the DGA these past two years,” Governor Shumlin said. “We recruited strong candidates, raised more money than we ever have before, and made history by electing strong Democratic governors in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. The core mission of the DGA and all of our Democratic governors is to create jobs and expand economic opportunity to everyone, and I am confident Governor Bullock and the new leadership team will continue to focus on that critical work.”

Bullock, a Helena native, delivered newspapers to the Governor’s residence as a kid. In 2008, he was elected Attorney General of Montana before being elected Governor in 2012.

Founded in 1983, the DGA is an independent political organization organized to support Democratic governors and candidates across  the nation. As the only organization dedicated to electing Democratic governors and candidates, the DGA participates at all levels of campaigns, from providing resources to funding operations to helping candidates articulate and deliver their messages.
