DGA Statement on South Dakota Primary Results

Today, Democratic Governors Association Executive Director Elisabeth Pearson released the following statement regarding South Dakota’s primary election results:

“The DGA congratulates state Sen. Billie Sutton on officially becoming the Democratic nominee in South Dakota,” said Pearson. “Billie Sutton has a powerful story of perseverance that resonates with all South Dakotans, and a record of reaching across the aisle for common-sense solutions. As a fifth-generation South Dakotan, no one is better suited than Billie to clean up state government, support agriculture, and develop a first-rate education system.

“Representative Kristi Noem is a creature of Washington, D.C., who spent the better part of the last decade catering to Washington special interests at the expense of working families in South Dakota. Representative Noem will struggle to rebound after a nasty primary about her failure to keep campaign promises in Washington. South Dakotans deserve a governor who will put middle-class families ahead of special interest insiders, and that’s Billie Sutton.”
