DGA Statement on Mike Ross’ Nomination for Governor of Arkansas

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Chair of the Democratic Governors Association, tonight issued the following statement regarding Mike Ross’ nomination for governor of Arkansas:

“I’d like to congratulate Mike Ross for winning the Democratic nomination for governor of Arkansas.  As a fifth generation Arkansan and former small business owner, Mike is guided by the Arkansas values of commonsense, hard work, and personal responsibility, and will always fight for a fair shot and greater economic opportunity for middle-class families.

“The same certainly can’t be said for Congressman Asa Hutchinson, who lost touch with the state and its values during his years as a D.C. lobbyist and big-spending Washington bureaucrat. In the House, Hutchinson put the interests of big corporations ahead of Arkansas’ middle class by voting against tax credits for middle-class families and small businesses, while voting for billions in tax breaks for big corporations that shipped jobs overseas. Arkansas voters understand which of these two candidates understand their lives and will fight on their behalf, which is why Mike Ross will be their next governor.”
