DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Andy Beshear’s Victory in Kentucky

Latest News

Today, Democratic Governors Association Chair Gina Raimondo released the following statement on Governor-Elect Andy Beshear’s victory in Kentucky’s gubernatorial race, a major pickup for Democrats:

“Congratulations to Governor-Elect Andy Beshear for his well-deserved victory tonight in Kentucky. Kentuckians now have a champion in the governor’s office who has spent his career fighting for children and families by protecting coverage for Kentuckians with a pre-existing condition and supporting a quality public school education for every child.

Governor-Elect Andy Beshear will restore decency to Frankfort and has spent his career lifting up every single Kentuckian. Tonight’s victory is a major pickup for Democrats and a massive rejection of Bevin’s record of stoking chaos, undermining public education, and trying to gut health care coverage. I look forward to serving alongside Gov. Beshear and to seeing all of the great things he will accomplish for Kentucky.”

DGA Executive Director Noam Lee released the following statement:

“Winning the Kentucky governor’s race was a top priority for the DGA. We worked hand-in-glove with the Beshear campaign after the primary so they had the infrastructure needed to win. The DGA strategically invested over $5 million in this race, which allowed us to outspend the Republicans for the last month of the campaign—a time period we know is critical to success.

Andy Beshear has spent his career fighting for Kentucky children and families to have a real path to prosperity. Tonight, Beshear becomes the second person in Kentucky history to unseat an incumbent running for re-election. We congratulate Governor-Elect Beshear on his hard-fought victory tonight.”
