DGA Releases New Video: ‘Silent Susana’

Trump visits New Mexico while Martinez continues hiding

Today, with Donald Trump in New Mexico, the Democratic Governors Association released a new web video calling on Gov. Susana Martinez to end her 3-month-long silence on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Watch the video, entitled “Silent Susana.”

Donald Trump – who has built his campaign around calls to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border – will host a campaign rally in Albuquerque on Tuesday, ahead of the state’s June 7 primary election.

Trump’s Albuquerque visit promises to be awkward for Martinez. Since February 29, Martinez has ducked New Mexico reporters’ questions about whether she’d support Trump if he wins the nomination. Even after other Republican candidates dropped out of the race, Martinez has refused to say that she’ll support the nominee.

“For months, Gov. Susana Martinez has been ducking questions about supporting Donald Trump for president,” said Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Will Martinez use Trump’s first public appearance in New Mexico to finally endorse his campaign? Or will she keep New Mexican voters in the dark while she continues her game of hide and seek?”

This weekend, Martinez – the Chair of the Republican Governors Association – was elected as a state delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, which she plans on attending.

As Chair of the RGA, Martinez is one of the most high-profile Republicans to refuse to endorse the nominee. However, Republican voters are increasing pressure on party leaders like Martinez. According to a New York Times/CBS News poll last week, “eight in 10 Republican voters said their leaders should support Mr. Trump.”
