DeWine All Talk and No Action

DeWine claims to support protections for pre-existing conditions, but refuses to join lawsuit to prevent rollback

After last week’s drastic flip flop on the Medicaid expansion, Mike DeWine continues to try and deceive Ohio voters. His latest fiction? Claiming he supports the Affordable Care Act’s protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

But the facts just don’t add up. When his boss, GOP governor John Kasich, opposed Republican attacks on the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid Expansion, and protections for those with preexisting conditions, DeWine refused to stand by him and ignored calls to join a lawsuit fighting against those rollbacks.

Over the course of a nasty primary, DeWine spent over a million dollars on television ads making vicious attacks on his primary opponent for her support of Medicaid Expansion. He also is on the record numerous times stating his opposition to the program.

Despite example after example of DeWine consistently siding with insurance companies, he will still brazenly lie to Ohioans. When presented with a real chance to protect middle class families DeWine turned it down, never missing an opportunity to work for his donors.

“Throughout his career Mike DeWine has time and time again demonstrated he will sell Ohio families for his special interest donors,” says Democratic Governors Association Deputy Communications Director David Turner. “This latest shameless move runs contrary to DeWine’s long history as a champion for special interests. Ohioans should judge DeWine on his actions, and it’s clear he would rip away healthcare from them and their families. Words are cheap when you have a long record opposing expanding access to healthcare.”
