As Nevada Is Set To Receive $4.1 Billion in COVID Relief, Mark Amodei Must Answer for His “No” Vote on ARP

Latest News

Today, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are scheduled to visit Las Vegas to celebrate the passage of the American Rescue Plan. As stimulus checks start to hit bank accounts and other relief gets doled out to Nevadans, Rep. Mark Amodei, who is seen as a potential 2022 gubernatorial candidate, still refuses to support the bill and pushes lies about the ARP.

Nevadans stand to benefit greatly from the bill Amodei voted against. Overall, the state is set to receive $4.1 billion – including $1 billion for schools, enhanced and extended unemployment insurance for 178,150 Nevada workers, and stimulus checks for more than 86% Nevadan adults. The ARP is extremely popular – 70% percent of Americans support the plan, and 64% of Republicans support the stimulus checks, a key element of the proposal.

Amodei claims he voted against the bill because 90% of the ARP doesn’t go towards COVID relief – an outright lie. According to Politifact, nearly all of the ARP spending goes towards some form of relief – stimulus checks, vaccines, testing and tracing, money to help reopen schools safely, small business relief, unemployment benefits, and more.

“As stimulus checks hit Nevadans’ bank accounts, Mark Amodei can’t take any credit,”
said DGA Senior Communications Advisor Christina Amestoy. “Amodei voted against over $4 billion in relief for his state, all to prove his allegiance to the GOP. No matter what office Amodei decides to seek in the future, this will be another stain on his record.”
