Congressman Ron DeSantis Calls Andrew Gillum “Articulate”, Says Florida Shouldn’t “Monkey This Up” By Electing Him
In less than 24 hours, Ron DeSantis is already resorting to dog whistle politics. On Fox News this morning, DeSantis called Andrew Gillum, the first black gubernatorial nominee in Florida history, “articulate” and saying the state shouldn’t “monkey this up” by electing him.
“On the first day of the general election, Ron DeSantis showed Floridians who he really is,” said Democratic Governors Association Deputy Communications Director David Turner. “Resorting to dog whistle politics within hours of winning the GOP nomination shows a desperate candidate who will stoop to new lows in order to court and give voice to fringe elements of society. Floridians want a leader who will bring them together; Ron DeSantis has shown that he would only divide Florida.”

Anchor: How do you plan to beat him?
DeSantis: Well look, I mean this – Florida elections are always competitive. And this is a guy who, although he’s much too liberal for Florida, I think he’s got a huge problems with how he’s governed Tallahassee. You know, he is an articulate spokesman for those far-left views. He’s a charismatic candidate. And you know I watched those Democrat debates, none of that was my cup of tea, but I mean he performed better than the other people there, so we’ve got to work hard to make sure we continue Florida going in a good direction. Let’s build off the success we’ve had under Governor Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases, and bankrupting the state. That’s not gonna work, that’s not gonna be good for Florida. So, I’m going to fight for what I believe in because I think I’m the guy who can really lead Florida in a good direction.
