DGA Statement on Trump Infrastructure Meeting With GOP Governors
Today, DGA Chair Gov. Dan Malloy (D-CT) and DGA Vice Chair Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) released the following joint statement on President Trump’s meeting with Republican governors and elected officials on transportation policy:
“Democratic governors across the country are focused on growing our economies by enhancing state investment in infrastructure.
“States need a real national infrastructure plan with significant federal investment in our economic corridors. We welcome innovative solutions to strengthen investment in transportation. But the federal government must live up to its end of the bargain, and cannot rely on magic math or shift the burden to states. That’s why Congress should reject the draconian budget cuts proposed by President Trump, which contradict his campaign promise to fund $1 trillion in new infrastructure investments.
“States are leading innovation on project delivery and financing, and we stand ready to be active partners on infrastructure. But without significant increases in direct federal funding that close the infrastructure gap, thousands of projects will be left undone, in transportation, water, ports, clean energy, broadband and more. We hope that President Trump will listen to the voices of Democratic and Republican leaders and ensure that the federal government does its part to meaningfully invest in our nation’s infrastructure.”
