DGA Statement on Governor-Elect Jared Polis’s Victory in Colorado

DGA Chair Governor Jay Inslee (D-WA) issued the following statement on Governor-Elect Jared Polis’s historic victory in Colorado’s gubernatorial race:

“Congratulations to Governor-Elect Jared Polis on his victory tonight in Colorado,” said Gov. Inslee.“Jared won by focusing on bringing concrete solutions to the issues affecting Coloradans, including reducing the costs of health care and investing in a high-quality public education system. As an entrepreneur, Jared Polis understands what Colorado needs to grow and diversify its economy. Jared will build on the progress made during the last eight years under Governor John Hickenlooper and continue moving the Centennial State forward.
“This is a critical victory for redistricting in 2021. Colorado was one of nine states in the DGA’s ‘Unrig the Map’ initiative and tonight’s victory means the state will see a fairer redistricting process in 2021.
“I was proud to serve alongside Jared in Congress and I personally saw him fight for a stronger economy, access to affordable health care and clean energy jobs. I’m also glad to see history made today, as Jared became the first openly gay man ever elected as governor. Jared will be a great leader for Colorado – and I look forward to working with him once again as Western governors.”
