West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice Named Least Popular Incumbent Facing Reelection
In case you missed it, Morning Consult has ranked GOP West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice as the least popular incumbent facing reelection in 2020. While we’d like to congratulate the governor, we can’t say we’re surprised. After all, Gov. Justice has really put in the effort to secure this honor.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane to see why Gov. Justice is so unpopular:
- Instead of taking on the “full-time responsibility” of governing the state, Gov. Justice is AWOL at the state capitol and “almost never meets with his cabinet.”
- Justice has used his office to line his own pockets by fast-tracking legislation benefiting one of his properties and remaining heavily involved in his business empire, even taking time to defend it in court.
- Meanwhile, West Virginia has the worst economy in the United States.
- Sure, West Virginia’s infrastructure might be ranked last in the country, but Jim Justice doesn’t care – he commutes by private jet at taxpayers’ expense.
- Justice is so unpopular, he’s facing bipartisan calls for him to resign from office. Even his own party has given him a vote of no confidence.
“Gov. Jim Justice is an embarrassment to West Virginia and the office of governor,” said DGA Deputy Communications Director Christina Amestoy. “While Justice neglects his constituents in favor of his failing businesses, West Virginians are suffering. Justice should enjoy his dead-last ranking while it lasts – he won’t be an incumbent for much longer.”
