Candidates Double Down on their Support for Trump

Connecticut Republicans running for governor want voters to know one thing: They LOVE Trump.

At last week’s debate, the candidates bent over backwards to convince the audience that they enthusiastically supported President Trump during the 2016 election and continue to support his agenda now.

A highlight reel of their comments can be seen HERE.

  • Peter Lumaj: I voted for Trump. I supported Trump, and I keep supporting Trump. He’s my president, and he’s doing a great job.
  • Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton: The fact of the matter is I supported our nominee just like everybody else in this room.
  • Former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker: I voted for President Trump in the general election because I know that Washington is broken. We need a change agent. He’s a change agent.
  • Trumbull Selectman Tim Herbst: I supported the nominee of my party and I voted for the President of the United States of America.
  • State Rep. Prasad Srinivasan: The answer was very simple. It was very straightforward. You voted for the Republican candidate. And that is my voting record.

“It’s clear that the Republicans running for governor wants to be Donald Trump’s partner in Connecticut,” said DGA Communications Director Jared Leopold. “This primary is all about who can prove they’re the most loyal to Trump. The eventual nominee is going to have a hard time explaining their love of Trump to voters in the general election.”
