Winsome Sears Declares She is “Standing Shoulder to Shoulder” In Fight Against IVF
New reporting from The Advocate reveals that Winsome Sears delivered a speech at an event hosted by a right-wing organization, The Family Foundation of Virginia, which recently published a blog post that compared IVF to “child trafficking” and deemed parents who use IVF to grow their families as “selfish.”
At the event, Sears proudly told the organization that, “you’re not alone in this fight. I’m here with you. I’m standing shoulder to shoulder.”
These extreme views are nothing new for Sears. Sears has said she supports banning abortion “similar to the law that took effect in Texas” before many women know they are pregnant. She has even claimed that after conception, “The baby isn’t even [the mother’s] body, she’s got her own body. The blood running through the veins of the baby don’t belong to her, it’s not her blood.”
Sears has a long history of attacking families and seeking to rip their rights away. While running for Congress in 2004, Sears staunchly opposed same-sex marriage and wrote an op-ed where she argued that “society has gone immeasurably beyond all standards in accommodating the homosexual community.”
“Standing ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with extreme voices seeking to rip away fundamental freedoms from Virginia’s women, and parents trying to grow their families, is nothing to be proud of,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “At a time when Virginia families need a new governor focused on actually addressing the biggest issues in their lives, Winsome Sears’ long record and focus on pushing this type of extremism is wrong for Virginia.”
