Winsome Earle-Sears Campaign is Flailing As Republicans Look for Alternatives

Despite trying her best to go “full MAGA” and embrace the far-right wing of her party, Republicans in and out of Virginia have spent the week floating other potential gubernatorial candidates than Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears.

Yesterday, former delegate Dave LaRock announced that he is considering running for Virginia’s GOP gubernatorial nomination after “a grassroots movement to get him on the ballot began this week” and would “definitely” contrast his far-right record against Sears.

As if that wasn’t enough, later last night Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign co-manager took to social media to float failed perennial candidate Hung Cao as someone who could earn the endorsement of Donald Trump and Elon Musk and win the GOP nomination for governor.

This is not the first time that a Trump campaign official snubbed Sears’ campaign for governor. Before going on his radio show to fully affirm her loyalty to Donald Trump, Sears was denounced as someone who “isn’t going to win” by Trump’s 2016 and 2020 Virginia campaign chair.

“Winsome Earle-Sears’ campaign is stuck as she watches Republicans throw name after name around for the GOP nomination for governor, despite running since last September,” said DGA National Press Secretary Devon Cruz. “If this week is a sign of what’s to come before the primary, Sears is staring down a long road full of staking out extreme positions and abandoning the majority of Virginia voters to win a nomination that other Republicans don’t think she should.”
