What Last Night’s Primary Results Mean for the NH Gov Race
The results are in, and while former Senator Kelly Ayotte sported an “I Voted” sticker, New Hampshire voters still don’t know for whom.
While Chuck Morse and Gov. Chris Sununu made clear whose side they were on in yesterday’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary, Kelly Ayotte is still hiding the truth from Granite Staters about who she supports – after she infamously unendorsed Trump in 2016, which many say cost her her reelection bid.
Last night’s results also confirm that New Hampshire’s GOP gubernatorial primary is only going to get more extreme from here:
-
Since launching her campaign for governor, Ayotte has been courting some of the state’s most extreme far-right legislators.
-
Chuck Morse is refusing to say whether the 2020 election was legitimate, saying instead, “I’m all for moving forward on all those issues. I’m looking at 2024, I think that’s what we have to do. And I certainly am paying attention to the fact that President Trump’s working hard to get elected.”
-
Both Kelly Ayotte and Chuck Morse will also have to reckon with their extreme track records on abortion that are far out of line with where Granite Staters stand, including Ayotte’s push for a federal abortion ban in the U.S. Senate, and Morse being the “architect” of the state’s current ban on abortion.
“While Granite Staters still don’t know who she supported in last night’s first-in-the-nation primary, what they know for sure is that they can’t trust Kelly Ayotte,”said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “The state’s primary may be over, but Ayotte’s problems are only just beginning. With all eyes now on the governor’s race, Kelly Ayotte and Chuck Morse won’t be able to hide from their extreme track record.”
