Scott Schwab First to Enter Likely Messy Republican Primary in Kansas Governor’s Race
Today, Scott Schwab announced that he is the first candidate to launch a campaign in what is sure to be a crowded and messy Republican primary for Kansas’ open governor’s seat in 2026.
After years of fiscal mismanagement, harmful budget deficits, and underfunded schools under former full Republican control, Governor Laura Kelly’s common sense, middle-of-the-road approach has worked to get Kansas back on track since day one of her administration, and she’s been committed to steadying the ship since. Governor Kelly has worked with both parties to balance the budget, fully fund schools, and grow the state’s economy.
“Thanks to years of fiscal responsibility under Governor Laura Kelly, Kansas is not only back on track, but thriving,” said DGA States Press Secretary Emma O’Brien. “Since taking office in 2019, Governor Kelly has brought billions of dollars to Kansas by landing the biggest economic development project in state history, put millions of dollars back in the pockets of Kansas families, and fully funded public schools every single year in office after years of chronic underfunding. Scott Schwab and any of the other Republicans that enter what is sure to be a growing and messy primary field would bring Kansas back to the days of broken budgets, broken roads, and broken promises to students and teachers.”
