ROUND UP: Democratic Governors Highlight the Effects Abortion Will Have on the November Ballot
Surrounding the anniversary of the Dobbs decision, DGA Chair and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and several other Democratic governors have been highlighting how the fight for abortion rights will play a major role in November – including at a joint press conference that also featured DGA Vice Chair Gov. Kelly and Govs. Beshear, Cooper, Evers, Inslee and Green in Minneapolis yesterday. Read more below:
- NBC News: Democratic governors say abortion will be central to 2024 campaigns: Democratic governors said today that they see abortion rights as a winning issue for the party across the country in this year’s elections. “We’re going to have Democrats winning at a pace that we haven’t seen in decades,” Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers told reporters at a policy conference here.
- New York Times: Democrats Lean on Abortion Rights Message for Anniversary of End of Roe: “It’ll be a binary choice on who’s going to restrict your rights,” Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, who is the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, said in an interview on Sunday. “This will just be a narrative of their extremism, but this one is baked in because it’s real. It’s not theoretical.”
- Minnesota Refromer: Walz, Democratic governors say abortion will be on the November ballot: Walz, who serves as chair of the Democratic Governors Association, was joined by six other Democratic governors, including some facing close reelection battles in their home states. They said a person’s geography shouldn’t determine whether they can get an abortion.
