RGA Chair Dumps Trump; Why Won’t Eric Holcomb?

Holcomb’s #1 Donor Renounces Trump, But Holcomb Stands By His Endorsement

On Saturday, the Chair of the Republican Governors Association (RGA) announced that she will vote against Donald Trump, joining a parade of national Republicans in renouncing the presidential nominee.

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, the Chair of the RGA, called Trump’s comments on women “completely unacceptable” and announced she “will not support him now.”

The RGA has been the top donor to Indiana GOP gubernatorial candidate Eric Holcomb, with $4.3 million donated to his campaign. But 72 hours after Martinez’s announcement, Holcomb continues to stand by his endorsement of Trump.

“Eric Holcomb’s top supporter has dumped Donald Trump,” said Democratic Governors Association Communications Director Jared Leopold. “Why is Holcomb standing by Trump, when even the Republican Governors Association Chair has left him? While national Republicans continue to stand up against Donald Trump’s sexism and racism, Eric Holcomb has chosen to stand by his side.”
